Rachel Loizeau
Rachel Loizeau completed her Phd, entitled “the Epics and Krishna legend in Hoysala sculpture 12th-13th centuries” in South Asian art history at the Paris IV Sorbonne Univeristy, Paris in 2006. Then, in 2007, with the support of a grant from the French School of Asian Studies (Ecole Francaise d’Extreme Orient), she started working on the iconography of some early Cola temples located in the Kaveri Delta area. Meanwhile, with the support of a grant from the Fondation de France and a fellowship from the Center for Khmer Studies, she has recently expanded her research project on Hindu visual narratives to Southeast Asia and moved to Cambodia where she studied the Khmer narrative traditions from 10th to 13th centuries.

Rebecca Hall
Rebecca Hall has an ongoing interest in the local Buddhist arts of Southeast Asia. She completed a Ph.D. in Southeast Asian Art History at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2008. Her dissertation, “Of Merit and Ancestors: Buddhist Banners in Northern Thailand and Laos,” draws primarily from a year of fieldwork involving extensive travel in Northern Thailand and Laos to find and document banners, their functions, and local interpretations of meaning and use. With the support of a fellowship from the Center for Khmer Studies/Council of American Overseas Research Centers she spent four months in Cambodia in 2008 expanding her research on Buddhist banners in Southeast Asia. During her fellowship period at the ACM she will be expanding her research on Buddhist banners by studying a selection of banners in the ACM collection and analysing the relationship between the banners’ motifs and weavers’ interest in rebirth in heaven.
