For a nominal fee, we offer facilitated sessions for both educators and students that either impart cultural knowledge or explore themes and skills relevant to the ministry’s curriculum.
Docents are available on request to lead students on free guided tours (45-60 minutes each) giving an overview of the museum’s gallery and introducing the civilisations of Southeast Asia, China and South Asia. The tour will NOT include visits to the special exhibition. Due to overwhelming demands, this tour is available for booking by NHB-Member Schools only.
Focus tours offer educational experiences that explore themes through different historical periods. These tours can also illustrate abstract historical concepts (for example contact and interaction between civilisations) and many other topics beyond the humanities. Accompanied by our museum educators, students study selected group of artefacts in the museum's permanent collection and special exhibitions. Educators may also choose to utilize our special / focus tour as a crash course to cover specific topics from the school curriculum, for example the chapter on religion and philosophy from secondary one history syllabus.
Understand the skills and methods used by historians to unravel the mysteries of the past. Learn to make well supported inferences while getting intimate with our artefacts. The workshop seeks to steer students into a clear and positive mind set as they take their first step into the subject of History.
We are keen to share with students the art of conservation. The Hands-on Conservation Workshop will start with a gallery exploration of conservation in action followed by an activity that will see students "packing objects and artefacts".
Discover how critical lighting is to showcasing an artefact. Let us share with you the secrets of exhibition lighting. This hands-on workshop will allow participants to experience and understand the process of lighting up a small display. The process also serves as a platform to employ creative pedagogy for the diverse array of tertiary modules such as interior design, exhibition lighting and product design.
